History

Grace Hill Church has a rich history that started in 1896 when Rev. Hersman of the San Martin Presbyterian Church wanted to promote a church in Morgan Hill. The first meeting, June 27, 1897, was held by Rev. M.M. Gilchrist in an upper room of the 1894 Grammar school located on what is now 4th street – the building is long gone. The room was inadequate for worship, so in 1897 the congregation started building a church. Peter Dunne donated land located at the southwest corner of what is now Dunne and Church Street – guess where the street got its name. The original church building cost $1,200. The United Presbyterian Church of Morgan Hill was officially organized January 22, 1898. In 2022 the church, now called Grace Hill, celebrated its 125th Anniversary.
